You’ve got your Medicare card. Now what?
Now you need to decide if you want to get some additional coverage, since neither Part A nor Part B cover prescription drugs on an outpatient basis.
Additionally, Part A and Part B have co-payments and coinsurance and there is no annual out-of-pocket maximum.
One of the options is to look at a Medicare Supplement plan, which is secondary to Original Medicare. Medicare Supplement plans also do not cover prescription drugs on an outpatient basis, so you’ll still need to get a prescription drug plan.
The prescription drug plan and Medicare Supplement plan will also have premiums, and those could range anywhere from $125 on upwards. As we get older, of course, those premiums do increase.
*OR*
The other option is to get a Medicare Advantage plan.
A Medicare Advantage plan is also known as Part C. Part C combines both A and B into one plan, includes prescription drugs most of the time, and offers some additional benefits.
The nice thing about a Medicare Advantage plan is that it can be offered in your area for probably as low as a zero monthly premium and it can go up from there.
There are quite a few different plans that have varying premiums depending on which county and state you live in.
Here in North Carolina and South Carolina there is a variety of plans. Again, that ranges from zero to $50 per month or even a bit more.
I’d be happy to work with you to find the right Medicare options for you. I’m local here in Charlotte.
I believe everyone deserves to have a local agent help them with their Medicare plan. It’s too big a decision to leave to chance and the wrong decision may not give you the results you desire.
